Chromatic: Ear Training for Musicians · Last updated: 27 July 2026
This policy explains what Chromatic ("the app") does with your information. The app is an ear-training tool for musicians. It has no user accounts, no login, and no server of our own — your practice history, settings and presets stay on your device.
Manuel Pérez ("we") is the data controller for the processing
described here.

These deserve stating first, because the permissions the app requests suggest otherwise:
RECORD_AUDIO permission exists solely for this
on-device analysis.
The app stores your settings, custom presets, routines, practice progress, journey progress and language/theme choice in your device's local storage. This never leaves your device, is not readable by us, and is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data. It is not used for advertising or tracking. Because this storage is strictly necessary to provide the features you ask for, no separate consent banner is used for it.
Note that if you have Android Auto Backup enabled, Android may copy this app data to your Google Drive. That backup is controlled by you and Google, under Google's terms, not ours.
| What | Who receives it | Why | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advertising ID, IP address (and the approximate region derived from it), device and ad-interaction data | Google AdMob | To show ads that fund the free version | Free version only. In the EEA and UK, only after you consent — see below |
| A random identifier generated on first launch, plus your purchase status | RevenueCat, Google Play Billing | To remember that you bought Plus and to restore it on a new device | Only if you open the Plus screen or make a purchase |
| Your message, your email address if you choose to give one, the app version, your platform, the current screen, and a technical report of the most recent error and exercise | Discord (our private support channel) | To answer you and diagnose bugs | Only when you tap Send in the feedback form |
| Your IP address | GitHub | Downloading instrument sound samples for the built-in virtual instrument | Only when you use the virtual instrument output |
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond what the ad consent choice below governs.
The free version shows occasional full-screen ads between exercises, delivered by Google AdMob. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the app asks for your consent before requesting any ad, using Google's certified consent tool. If you do not consent, you will see non-personalised ads — ads chosen from the context rather than from your Advertising ID.
You can change your choice at any time: open the menu → About → Ad privacy settings. You can also reset your Advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalisation entirely, in Android's Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Buying Plus removes ads, and with them the associated data sharing with the ad provider.
Plus is a one-time purchase processed by Google Play. We never see or receive your payment details — Google handles the transaction and shares only whether the purchase succeeded. We use RevenueCat to record that entitlement against a random identifier created on your device; that identifier is not linked to your name, email or Google account by us.
The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Ads are restricted to general-audience content, and sensitive categories are blocked.
Feedback messages are kept for as long as needed to answer you and fix the issue, and no longer than 24 months. Purchase records are kept for as long as the entitlement exists, and as long as tax law requires. On-device data lives until you delete it or uninstall the app. Data held by Google and RevenueCat follows their own retention policies.
If you are in the EEA or UK you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Because the app has no accounts, the only data we can identify as yours is a feedback report you sent us — email us from the same address, or quote the message, and we will delete it. You may also complain to your national data protection authority (in Spain, the AEPD).
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. The ad consent control above is the opt-out for ad personalisation.
Google, RevenueCat and Discord are based in the United States and may process data there. Transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision, as set out in each provider's own terms.
If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and, where the change requires it, ask for your consent again in the app.
